Shockwave therapy is a treatment in which a device delivers acoustic pulses into the tissues to stimulate the body’s repair processes. We use it mainly for long-standing tendon and tendon-attachment problems: heel spurs, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow and shoulder pain. A single session costs 100 PLN. We do not perform it during pregnancy or in people with blood clotting disorders, among other things.
Below you will find the indications, contraindications, how the packages work and answers to common questions about this treatment.

How do the shockwave therapy packages work?
If the physiotherapist recommends a course of treatment, you can buy a package of 5, 10 or 15 visits. A package covers shockwave therapy sessions only — it cannot be used for other treatments or for manual therapy. Each package has an expiry date, and any visits not used by then are lost. We agree the number of sessions after the consultation, so it is best to buy a package after your first assessment.
| Package | Price | Valid for |
|---|---|---|
| 5 shockwave therapy sessions | 450 PLN | 1 month |
| 10 shockwave therapy sessions | 800 PLN | 2 months |
| 15 shockwave therapy sessions | 1 100 PLN | 3 months |
You will find all our prices in the price list.
What is known about how well shockwave therapy works?
Most of the research concerns plantar fasciitis (including heel spurs) and calcium deposits in the shoulder tendons — for these conditions shockwave therapy is a recognised treatment for long-standing symptoms. For tennis elbow the research results are less clear-cut. The treatment does not remove the bony spur itself; its aim is to reduce symptoms in the tissues around it. That is why we usually combine it with exercises and manual therapy.
When is shockwave therapy not suitable?
- pregnancy,
- blood clotting disorders or anticoagulant medication (to be assessed),
- cancer in the treatment area,
- acute inflammation, infection, fever,
- the area over the lungs, major blood vessels and nerves, open growth plates in children,
- a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device,
- recent steroid injections into the treatment area (please tell us about them).
The physiotherapist decides whether the treatment is safe for you after taking your history — please tell her about any illnesses and medication.
Which problems do we use it for?
Questions about shockwave therapy
Does shockwave therapy hurt?
The treatment can be unpleasant, especially over the most painful spot, but most people tolerate it well. The physiotherapist starts at a lower intensity and increases it gradually while watching how you respond. If the discomfort becomes too much, tell her straight away — the settings can be changed during the treatment.
Can unused visits from a package be carried over?
No. A package covers shockwave therapy sessions only and is valid for a set period: 1, 2 or 3 months, depending on the number of visits. Visits not used within that time are lost. That is why it is worth agreeing a treatment plan and convenient dates for the following visits with the physiotherapist before you buy.
Can shockwave therapy be combined with manual therapy?
Yes, this is a common combination, especially for tennis elbow and shoulder problems. In a single visit the physiotherapist applies shockwave therapy and works manually on the soft tissues and joints. Such a visit costs 200 PLN. Whether you need this combination is decided after the examination at the consultation and an assessment of what is causing your symptoms.
How should I prepare for the treatment?
Wear clothing that makes it easy to uncover the treatment area — for example, for the heel, comfortable shoes and socks you can take off. Bring any test results, such as an X-ray or ultrasound. Tell the physiotherapist if you are pregnant, take anticoagulants, have an implanted device or have had steroid injections, as this determines whether the treatment can be performed safely.
