Physiotherapy for the knee and hip — Rydułtowy

For knee or hip pain, a physiotherapist in Rydułtowy assesses your walking, joint movement and muscle strength, checks for warning signs and sets a therapy plan: strengthening exercises, manual therapy and, for tendon overload, also shockwave therapy or TECAR. We also provide rehabilitation after joint replacement. A consultation costs 180 PLN; visits are private, with no referral needed.

Here we describe what patients most often come with, when to see a doctor first and what therapy looks like at the clinic and in the patient’s home.

In brief

  • Physiotherapy consultation: 180 PLN, manual therapy: 180 PLN.
  • Manual therapy with TECAR: 210 PLN, with shockwave therapy: 200 PLN.
  • After joint replacement, rehabilitation is also possible at home, within a radius of up to 15 km from Rydułtowy.
  • The clinic is open Mon–Fri 7:00–20:00, for private visits only (not covered by NFZ, the Polish public health fund).

When should you see a doctor or go to A&E (SOR) first?

  • swelling that builds up within a few hours after an injury or twisting of the knee;
  • the knee locks when bent or “gives way” and you cannot stand on it;
  • a fall with hip pain and inability to put weight on the leg (possible fracture) — A&E;
  • fever, redness and warmth of the joint, and after surgery also discharge from the wound;
  • swelling, pain and warmth in one calf (possible blood clot) — see a doctor urgently;
  • night pain with unintended weight loss.

What knee and hip problems do patients come with?

Most often it is pain at the front of the knee when going down stairs or getting up from a chair, overload of the patellar tendon known as jumper’s knee, pain and stiffness due to osteoarthritis of the hip or knee, as well as rehabilitation after joint replacement and after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. These problems affect both people who play sport and older adults.

Knee pain does not always come from the knee itself. The physiotherapist also checks the hip, the foot and the lower back (lumbar spine), as pain from these areas can spread. Only then do they choose exercises and treatments.

What does rehabilitation after joint replacement or ACL reconstruction involve?

Rehabilitation after surgery follows the operating surgeon’s recommendations and the stage of healing. The physiotherapist teaches you to walk and stand up safely, gradually increases range of movement and muscle strength, and works on the scar and swelling. For the first visits the patient can come to the clinic or use home physiotherapy if they live within 15 km of Rydułtowy.

Bring your hospital discharge notes, the surgery report and the doctor’s recommendations, e.g. on how much weight to put on the leg, to your first visit. The patient’s relatives can book a visit by phone and pass this information on in advance.

Frequently asked questions

When should rehabilitation start after joint replacement?

The first exercises usually start while you are still in hospital, and further rehabilitation is decided by the operating surgeon in the discharge recommendations. You can come to the clinic or arrange a home visit after discharge, bringing your medical records. The physiotherapist adapts the exercises to the recommendations on weight-bearing and to the stage of wound healing.

Is it worth exercising with knee osteoarthritis?

Yes, according to clinical guidelines, exercise is one of the core elements of managing knee osteoarthritis. Exercises are matched to the patient’s pain, muscle strength and daily activities. The intensity is increased gradually. If the pain gets worse or spreads, stop the exercise and talk to your physiotherapist.

Can I have physical therapy treatments with a joint replacement?

Some treatments require caution or are not used near a metal implant, e.g. certain heat treatments and electrotherapy. The physiotherapist always asks about implants and decides which treatments are safe. The foundation of rehabilitation after joint replacement remains exercise, gait training and manual therapy, which do not require any equipment.

Do you make home visits after hip surgery?

Yes, we provide home physiotherapy within a radius of up to 15 km from Rydułtowy, including Rybnik, Wodzisław Śląski, Radlin and Pszów. We set the price when you book, depending on the distance. We do not currently travel to Racibórz or the Racibórz district, but patients from that area are welcome at our clinic in Rydułtowy.
