Scoliosis treatment for children in Rydułtowy — what it involves and how much it costs

Scoliosis treatment for children at our clinic consists of corrective exercises chosen to suit the type and size of the curve, supplemented by a foot assessment on a podoscope and balance exercises on a balance platform. A comprehensive visit costs 180 PLN, and packages of 4, 8 and 12 visits are also available. Scoliosis is diagnosed by a doctor, based on an examination and an X-ray, and it is also a doctor who decides on a brace.

Below you will find information about the course of therapy, visit packages and the parent’s role in exercising at home.

What does scoliosis therapy for a child involve?

The first visit starts with a talk with the parent and a look through the medical records, especially X-rays and the orthopaedic specialist’s recommendations. The physiotherapist assesses posture, spinal mobility and the position of the feet, and then teaches the child the first corrective exercises. At later visits the exercises are gradually adjusted, and the parent gets tips on how to make sure they are done regularly at home.

The podoscope assessment shows the footprint and how weight is distributed through the feet, which helps assess, for example, flat feet that may go hand in hand with postural problems. The balance platform is used for balance and posture-control exercises. Both are additions to corrective exercises, not a separate method of treating scoliosis.

The physiotherapist does not diagnose scoliosis or decide on a brace. If your child wears a brace, the exercises complement the treatment prescribed by the orthopaedic specialist, and if we notice any worrying changes during therapy, we will ask you to arrange a medical check-up.

How much do scoliosis therapy packages cost?

If the therapy is to be regular, you can buy a package of 4, 8 or 12 visits. Each package includes a physiotherapy consultation at the start of therapy and is meant to be used within a set period: 1, 2 or 3 months. The physiotherapist decides on the number and frequency of visits after the first examination, so that is the best time to talk about which package to choose.

When should you see a doctor first?

  • a curve noticed for the first time, without an orthopaedic examination,
  • a curve getting worse quickly, especially during a growth spurt,
  • back pain in a child, especially at night or with a fever,
  • numbness, weakness in the legs, problems with walking.

In these cases, an orthopaedic specialist or paediatrician needs to be seen first — physiotherapy complements medical treatment, it does not replace it.

Questions about scoliosis treatment

Can a parent be present during the visit?

Yes, a parent or guardian can be present for the whole visit, and we encourage it, especially at the start of therapy. That way you know how your child should do the exercises at home and what to watch out for. We describe our rules for working with children in our child protection standards.

Is an X-ray needed for the therapy?

No referral is needed (in Poland, a referral is a doctor’s document normally required for publicly funded care), but if your child already has a spinal X-ray and a report from an orthopaedic specialist, bring them to the first visit. This helps us choose exercises that match the type and size of the curve. If your child has not yet seen a doctor, the physiotherapist may suggest an orthopaedic consultation.

What does a visit package include?

The package covers scoliosis therapy for a child and includes a consultation at the start of therapy. Each package must be used within a set period. Reception will confirm when you buy it whether the podoscope assessment and balance platform exercises are also included — we always give you the details before payment.

What should my child wear to the visit?

Comfortable sportswear is best: shorts and a T-shirt or top that let us assess the position of the shoulder blades, pelvis and knees. For the podoscope foot assessment your child takes off their shoes and socks, so it is worth letting them know in advance. Bring some water and any records from the orthopaedic specialist, if your child has them.
